Shortlisted poets will also read on the night &#8211; as will contributors to \u00d3 Bh\u00e9al&#8217;s Monday night Five Word Challenges held over the past 12 months. The anniversary open-mic is reserved for poems written by <em>other poets<\/em>, so bring a favourite or two!<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><font color=\"silver\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.obheal.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MarcellaRemundAwardSm3.jpg\" width=\"198\" height=\"150\" border=\"1\"\/><\/font><font size=\"1\"><strong>Marcella Remund<\/strong> is from South Dakota, in the heart of the American Midwest. She taught at the University of South Dakota, where she also served as Faculty Advisor to the VLP, the university&#8217;s student creative writing organization. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals. <\/p>\n<p>Her chapbook, <em>The Sea is My Ugly Twin<\/em>, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2018. Her first full-length collection, <em>The Book of Crooked Prayer<\/em>, was published by Finishing Line in 2020. Her recently completed unpublished manuscript, <em>The Sin Ladder<\/em>, is based on Ireland&#8217;s Magdalene laundries. He won the Alan Jones Prize (2019 &#038; 2021) and was shortlisted in the 2020 &#038; 2021 \u00d3 Bh\u00e9al Five Words competitions and the Wells Open Poetry Competition 2021. He has been highly commended in Acumen (2020 competition), Segora (2021) StoryTown Corsham (2022) and Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival Competition (2022). <\/p>\n<p>His poems have appeared in various anthologies and publications including <em>Frogmore Papers, One Hand Clapping, Proverse, Acumen, The Honest Ulsterman, Best New British &#038; Irish Poets 2019 -2021, Epoch, A3 Review, Madrigal<\/em> and <em>Dreich<\/em>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"silver\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.obheal.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/PeterArvanManosSm2.jpg\" width=\"104\" height=\"150\" border=\"1\"\/><\/font><font size=\"1\">Poems by <strong>Peter Arvan Manos<\/strong> have been published in<em> The New York Times, Yellow Chair Review, Eunoia Review, Modern Poetry Quarterly Review, Abstract Mag TV<\/em> and in <em>TAB: The Journal of Poetry &#038; Poetics<\/em>, and elsewhere. Peter has completed two poetry chapbooks,<em> Walt Whitman\u2019s Wolves<\/em>, and <em>Myriads<\/em> which together are part of his unpublished book in progress, titled <em>The Real Dirt<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Peter works as an industry analyst and strategy consultant in the areas concerning sustainability, wind and solar power, energy efficiency and electric smart grid developments.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: silver;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.obheal.ie\/blog\/5wordscompSm.jpg\" width=\"115\" height=\"94\" border=\"1\" align=\"right\"\/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">The <strong>10th<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: green;\">Five Words International Poetry Competition<\/span><\/strong> will begin on Tuesday the 12th of April 2022 (at midday GMT) and runs for 42 weeks, until the 31st of January 2023. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">The judge for 2022\/2023 is <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.victoriakennefick.com\/\">Victoria Kennefick<\/a><\/b>. Romania, 2013). He is author of prose works in Welsh (<em>Y Gwyddel<\/em>, Y Lolfa 2010) and English (<em>Pen and Plough<\/em>, Carreg Gwalch 2016). <\/p>\n<p>His recent retelling of the origin tales of Ireland under the collective title <em>The Tara Trilogy<\/em> has won him critical acclaim and a large readership for <em>Conaire M\u00f3r, Tuatha D\u00e9 Danann<\/em>, and <em>\u00c9adaoin<\/em> (Leabhar Breac, 2017, 2018, 2020 respectively). His work is influenced by an in depth reading of the Celtic tradition, and a knowledge of lyric traditions in several major European languages.
