Bh&eacute;al audience in Cork &#8211; the regulars and irregulars<\/i><\/font><\/center><\/p>\n<p>what is the word<br \/>\nif not its mouth<br \/>\nopen<br \/>\nclosed<br \/>\nstretched pursed<br \/>\nthe lips-teeth-tongue-palate-ridge quintet<br \/>\nand the little squiggly bit<br \/>\ndangling at the back<br \/>\nof your throat<br \/>\ngood for Spanish words like jengibre<br \/>\nand even simple English words<br \/>\nlike <em>hjello, hjow are you<\/em>?<br \/>\nair, funnelling<br \/>\nfrom lungs through larynx<br \/>\nto fill the mouth<br \/>\nwith all those things you want to say<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><em>&oacute; bh&eacute;al<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>without that struggle<br \/>\nto be heard<br \/>\nhow would we reveal<br \/>\nthe workings of the psyche<br \/>\nthe splintered contradiction<br \/>\nof unspoken word<br \/>\nsynaptic between thought and<br \/>\narticulation<br \/>\nagglutinating silence<br \/>\nwith the spectre of a sound<br \/>\na hum, a murmur, gurgle, giggle<br \/>\ncough, a plosive genie<br \/>\npuffed into the air<br \/>\nwith fricatives confused around it<br \/>\nshitting flipping fecked expletives<br \/>\nflustering the aaaaah&#8230; the<br \/>\nooooOOoooo the frightened eeeeee!<br \/>\nof vowels voiced<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<b><i>&oacute; She is currently a freelance translator and teacher of the Spanish language. She has published several translations of poetry including Valerio Magrelli&#8217;s <em>Instructions on How to Read a Newspaper <\/em>(Chelsea Editions, 2008). Other work includes a collection of short stories, <em>Dall&#8217;altra parte<\/em> (Leconte, Rome, 2003), a one-act play, <em>The Interpreter<\/em> (Delta3 Edizioni, 2003), and a collection of poems, <em>Paso Doble<\/em>, (Empiria, Rome, 2006) written as a poetic dialogue with the Italian poet Annamaria Ferramosca.
